NEW YORK - Burt Reynolds, the handsome film and television star known for his acclaimed performances in ``Deliverance'' and ``Boogie Nights'' and for an active off-screen life which included relationships with Loni Anderson, Sally Field and Dinah Shore, has died at age 82.
His death was confirmed by his agent Todd Eisner, who did not immediately have further details.
Reynolds inspired a wide range of responses over his long, erratic career; critical acclaim and critical scorn, commercial success and box office bombs.

LETHBRIDGE– The Lethbridge Symphony is welcoming five outstanding young musicians to compete in the Live Audition Finals of the 2018 Young Artist Competition on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 3 p.m. in the ATB Community Room at Casa.
The Young Artist Competition was started in 1985 and continues with the generosity of the Helen Johnson Memorial Fund.
Not only does the winner get a chance to perform as a guest soloist with the Symphony, they also receive a cash donation thanks to the sponsorship of Mark and Bev Bellamy.

EDMONTON -- The new Royal Alberta Museum is to open its doors in three weeks in downtown Edmonton to officially make it the biggest such facility in Western Canada.
Tourism Minister Ricardo Miranda says the museum will open on Oct. 3 with six days of free admission through to Oct. 8.
The $376-million facility covers 40,000 square metres, including 7,600 square metres of exhibition space.
There will be more than 5,300 objects on display in rooms dedicated to human history and natural history along with a children's area and bug gallery.

LETHBRIDGE– Residents of Lethbridge will have an opportunity this coming week to view the draft plan for the community’s long-term vision for the Civic Common.
Civic Common is the four-square-block area that includes land occupied by City Hall south to the Civic Ice Centre as well as the Civic Field, the Yates Theatre, the Old Courthouse, the YMCA, the Fritz Sick Centre and the Lethbridge RCMP detachment.
An Open House for the Draft Civic Common Master Plan will take place on Thursday, Sept. 20 between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the City Hall foyer.

TABER – After weeks of anticipation, the One Horse Town event took over the Town of Taber on Saturday, Sept. 15, and if videos posted to social media are any indicator it was a big success.
Mayor Andrew Prokop says the town was buzzing for weeks regarding the possibility of them getting the event.
“We’re extremely excited that we were able to be chosen, and obviously we gained a lot of support from our local and area people voting on our behalf to make it happen.”

LETHBRIDGE - There isn't much that impresses Shania Twain, her words of course from one of her most popular songs, but one dancer from Lethbridge caught her eye in the past and it's led to a friendship both personal and professional.
Tara-Jean Popowich, best known for winning Season 2 of So You Think You Can Dance Canada, will be working with Twain again this year for one of the artist's music videos.
Popowich says the industry is so small nowadays that she just gets calls, instead of having to audition against thousands of people.

COALDALE - The story behind one of the world's rarest gemstones found in Southern Alberta will be told in the form of a 15 to 20-minute documentary thanks to a $50,000 grant from STORYHIVE.
Since 2013, the STORYHIVE program has been offering production grants and distribution opportunities for filmmakers, musicians, storytellers and creators in B.C. and Alberta.

WOODSTOCK, Conn. - The puppeteer who has played Big Bird on "Sesame Street" is retiring after nearly 50 years on the show.
Caroll Spinney tells the New York Times that Thursday, Oct. 18 will be his last day on the program, which he joined from the start in 1969. In addition to Big Bird, the 84-year-old was also Oscar the Grouch.
Spinney says "I always thought, how fortunate for me that I got to play the two best Muppets?"

LETHBRIDGE - The New West Theatre Society will receive nearly $23,500 from the City of Lethbridge's Recreation and Culture operating surplus to help mitigate the effects of the Yates Theatre construction over the last year.

That’s what Operation Christmas Child has been trying to do since it began in 1990 when Dave and Jill Cooke of Wales were watching a television report about Romanian orphans.
Dave and Jill couldn’t stop the poverty, but they could offer something – the gift of love. Together, they filled a convoy of nine trucks with medical supplies, food, clothing, and Christmas gifts for children, then drove to Romania.

NASHVILLE -- Country star Roy Clark, the guitar virtuoso and singer who headlined the cornpone TV show "Hee Haw" for nearly a quarter century and was known for such hits as "Yesterday When I was Young" and "Honeymoon Feeling," has died. He was 85.
Publicist Jeremy Westby said Clark died Thursday due to complications from pneumonia at home in Tulsa, Okla.
